Mystery at the Wedding – new versions now available

As fans of this blog may know, my wedding in 2022 featured an original game design called Theft at the Ticky Museum.

This was a Cluedo-inspired mystery game that began during the drinks reception and ran through to the very start of the evening do. Guests were given a couple of clue cards and had to solve the mystery of who stole which exhibit from the museum of mine and Tim’s relationship, and where they hid it.

After a series of design iterations, the game is now available to purchase, with three different versions on offer:

  • Fully custom
  • Personalised
  • Print-and-play

Theft from the Wedding Museum: custom game design

The game was originally designed for my wedding in 2022 under the name Theft at the Ticky Museum. We wanted a game that would entertain guests during the drinks reception when the bridal party would be busy with official photography. We hoped that by designing this game, guests would have an easy way to start conversations with people they didn’t know.

We expected our gamer friends to be keen, but were blown away by how many guests got stuck right in! Even our non-gamer friends and family were swapping clues and sharing notes throughout the reception, and seven people got the right answer at the end of the game.

In the years since, I have sold a handful of fully custom versions of the game. These designs are labours of love, and are developed through conversations with the wedding couple about the overall feel of their wedding, finding out about the particular quirks of their bridal party, understanding their venue and helping them work out the contents of their wedding museum. I then develop fully custom clues that lead to a single logical output. Sometimes these clues are multi-layered, and require guests to link together two, three or even four clues to eliminate a suspect or location.

Due to the time commitment to achieve this level of personalisation, this game version is priced at £350, plus a print fee that depends on the number of guests.

The Stolen Cake: personalised and print-and-play versions

I love designing custom versions of the game, but due to the high level of customisation, I’m not able to take on as many of these designs as I would like to. I also know that the price point may not be feasible for all wedding budgets. This is why I have developed the print-and-play and personalised versions of the game.

Mystery at the Wedding cards on place setting

In early versions of my own wedding game, the theft was of the wedding cake, and it is this mystery I have developed for these two versions of the game.

The game versions are very similar. For the print-and-play version, you download all the game files and choose your own solution from a list of options. However, you need to do all of the printing yourself and the game files won’t include your suspect names or any other personalisation. This version costs just £10.

The personalised version features the same mystery, however you fill out a form to provide me with various wedding details such as your names and your suspect names. You can also choose from a number of colour and font options. This version costs £100 plus a print fee that depends on the number of guests.

Purchasing the game

All three versions are available to purchase now from my website. If you or anyone you know is looking for a unique gaming experience to meld seamlessly into your wedding day, please take a look!
